Fully Funded Nursing and Midwifery Scholarships at Catholic University of Rwanda (September 2026 Intake)

If you finished S6 with Biology and Chemistry and you have been waiting for a real chance to study nursing without worrying about tuition, this one is worth your attention.

Catholic University of Rwanda, working together with the Ministry of Health under the 4x4 Strategy, has opened applications for funded scholarships in two health programs for the September 2026 intake. The scholarship covers tuition fees only, so plan for the other costs yourself, but tuition is usually the biggest wall for most students, and here it is being taken off the table.

Programs available

Bachelor of Science in Nursing with Honours
Bachelor of Science in Midwifery with Honours

Both are degree programs at the Huye campus.

When to apply

Applications run from 28 August to 11 September 2026. That is a short window, about two weeks, so do not sit on it. Candidates who are shortlisted will be invited to sit an admission test, and the date for that test will be communicated later.

Who can apply

You need to have completed general secondary education with one of these principal combinations:

Physics, Chemistry, Biology (PCB)
Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology (MCB)
Biology, Chemistry, Geography (BCG)
Associate Nursing Programs

On top of the combination, the grade requirements go like this:

If you completed secondary school from 2024 onwards, you need at least Grade E in Biology and Chemistry.
If you completed before 2024, the bar is higher. You need at least Grade C in Biology and Chemistry.
A2 Nurses need a minimum of 60% marks plus Grade E in both Biology and Chemistry, or in Fundamentals of Nursing and Clinical Attachment.

How selection works

Meeting the minimum requirements gets you to the test, not to the scholarship. Candidates who satisfy both the HEC requirements and the university's own requirements will sit an admission test, and the final list of scholarship beneficiaries is decided purely on the admission test score.

So treat the test seriously. Revise your Biology and Chemistry now, before the invitation even arrives.

Two things you should know before applying

First, students who are finally selected will sign a contract agreement with the Ministry of Health. The idea is that you get absorbed into the health system after graduation, and in return you serve for a minimum period of time. It is a fair deal, but read the contract properly when you get there so you know what you are committing to.

Second, if you are already receiving another scholarship funded by the Government or its partners, you are not eligible to apply. One student, one funded seat.

How to apply

Applications are submitted online. You will need two documents ready:

Your S6 certificate
Your National ID or Passport

Scan them clearly, then apply through the Catholic University of Rwanda online application portal: CLICK HERE

A small piece of advice from experience. Do not wait for the last day. Portals get slow when everyone rushes in at the same time, and a network problem on 11 September will not be accepted as an excuse.
