Ruli Higher Institute of Health (RHIH) Scholarships 2026: 54 Ministry of Health Sponsored Slots in Nursing and Midwifery
Ruli Higher Institute of Health Sainte Rose de Lima (RHIH) has released an official call for scholarship applications, and it is a good one. Fifty four government-sponsored scholarships, all covering tuition, for the September 2026 intake of its Nursing and Midwifery undergraduate programmes.
RHIH is an institution under the Archdiocese of Kigali, and the scholarship is offered in collaboration with the Ministry of Health (MoH). Applications opened on 31 August 2026 and close on 11 September 2026, so the whole window is under two weeks.
If you did Biology and Chemistry in Senior Six, read this to the end.
About Ruli Higher Institute of Health Sainte Rose de Lima (RHIH)
RHIH is a health sciences institution based in Ruli, operating under the Archdiocese of Kigali. It trains nurses and midwives, and nothing else, which is exactly why the Ministry of Health works with it on programmes like this one. The training is built around the same health system you will end up serving in.

Midwifery has double the slots this year. Worth thinking about when you choose, because you only pick one programme.
What the scholarship covers
Tuition for the undergraduate programme you are admitted into. That is the core of it.
You also get your training at an institution focused entirely on health sciences, and a route into Rwanda's health system once you graduate. That route comes with paperwork though. Every beneficiary signs a contract with the Ministry of Health covering absorption into the health system and a minimum service period after graduation. Read that agreement properly before you sign it. For most people it is a fair trade, but go in knowing the terms.
RHIH scholarship eligibility criteria
The requirements change depending on when and where you finished, so find your group below.
- Completed secondary school from 2024 onwards
You need an Advanced Level Certificate of Secondary Education with an overall average of at least 60%. Biology and Chemistry are the core subjects that count, no matter which combination you did, and you need at least an E grade in both.
- Completed Senior Six before 2024
At least A, B, C or D in both Biology and Chemistry, plus at least a subsidiary pass in Mathematics, Physics or Geography.
- Completed an Associate Nursing programme after 2023
An overall average of at least 60%, with at least an S grade in both Biology and Chemistry, or in both Fundamentals of Nursing and Clinical Attachment.
- Completed the old A2 Nursing programme before 2008
You must hold a valid licence to practise issued by the National Council of Nurses and Midwives (NCNM), and have at least a C- in Fundamentals of Nursing and Introduction to Anesthesia, and in the practical examination.
What rules you out
- You have not graduated from Senior Six or its equivalent.
- You are already on another scholarship funded by the Government or one of its partners.
- You already hold a degree from another university-level programme.
- You break the application rules. RHIH says anyone who does can be disqualified immediately and may face further sanctions depending on how serious it is.
That last line is really about fake or edited documents. Not worth it.
Documents to prepare
Only two:
- Senior Six certificate, or an equivalent academic certificate
- National ID or passport
Scan them properly. Straight, clear, readable. Plenty of good applications get thrown out over unreadable uploads and nothing else.
How to apply for the RHIH scholarship
Everything happens on the Ruli Higher Institute of Health online application system.
- Open the application form using the link at the bottom of this post.
- Select your programme, Nursing or Midwifery.
- Upload your S6 certificate and your National ID or passport.
- Check every detail again. Your names, your marks, your phone number, your email.
- Submit before 11 September 2026.
The admission test is what really decides
Meeting the minimum requirements does not win you a scholarship. It only gets you into the exam room.
Everyone who meets the RHIH admission requirements will be invited to sit an admission test on 17 September 2026. Final selection is based on how you perform there. So start revising Biology and Chemistry now, while your application is still being processed. Waiting for the invitation before you open a book is how people lose these.
After selection, successful candidates sign the agreement with the Ministry of Health covering their service obligations and absorption into Rwanda's health system.
Key dates
- Applications open: 31 August 2026
- Application deadline: 11 September 2026
- Admission test: 17 September 2026
- Intake: September 2026, for the 2026 to 2027 academic year
Two small tips
Apply in the first few days rather than the last. Application portals here always slow down when everyone rushes at once, and a frozen page on 11 September is a bad way to lose a scholarship.
And if your grades sit right on the minimum, apply anyway. The requirement is a floor, not a ranking. The test is where it is won.
